Marriage Preparation:
Overview

Dear Engaged Couple,
This information explains the variety of options available for marriage preparation offered by the Diocese of Oakland. Although each program has a different format, all preparation includes similar content addressing those facets essential to a Christian marriage.

  • Developing communication skills
  • Permanence of your marriage commitment
  • Dealing with expectations
  • Family of origin
  • Becoming a family in the modern world
  • Presence of God in your marriage
  • Enrichment opportunities

Every engaged couple like yourself has concerns for their future. You also have goals, promises, and dreams you wish to attain. The priests, deacons, and other people of your Church want to help you prepare to meet those goals, keep those promises, and live out your dreams well equipped to face the pressures on married living today.

I realize how much planning a wedding involves. However, I believe with heartfelt sincerity, that your attending a marriage preparation program will be a resource that will sustain you far beyond the wedding day.

Therefore, I encourage you to give priority to this important preparation by completing your program at least three months prior to your wedding date, so that it does not become a last-minute exercise. Please contact the Family Life Office as soon as possible as reservations are given on a first-come, first-served basis. I pray you God¹s blessings as you plan for your future together, and hope that we can serve you effectively to make that future fulfilling.

Sincerely,

Rita Billeci,
